Your Body Wins

I feel like I rarely get sick, and I credit that to living a pretty healthy lifestyle. I prioritize sleep, exercise regularly (not enough strength work), drink water (not enough), take supplements, and try to eat pretty well (but I love french fries, pizza, wine and cheeseburgers a lot too). But, sometimes, living a healthy lifestyle isn’t enough, and our body forces us to slow down because we often don’t do it ourselves.

If I’m honest, this has been a bit of a crazy year of activity.  We sold 2 homes, moved into temporary space for 3 months, then moved into a new house we had built, and then successfully rented our condo.  And mixed in with that was getting the kids settled in new housing arrangements for the year and training for/running two half-marathons.

It felt like a lot while it was happening along with the rest of the stuff that goes on in life, but I knew I just needed to push through because there was an end in sight… we’ll close on this date, we’ll move on this date, storage will be delivered on this date so we can unpack, the training will be done and then I can rest.

Last week my body decided that enough was enough, and I picked up the cold that my husband had on Thanksgiving.  Thankfully, I wasn’t fully down and out, but I was slowed down enough to cancel out of several activities this past weekend and needed to just focus on doing the bare minimum.

Being a leader requires significant energy - whether you are leading yourself or also have responsibility for others.  If we don’t protect our energy stores, our body forces us to slow down, often not at the time we want.

Just like endurance athletes, we need to have a strategy for managing our energy that involves rest, fueling, hydration, and a plan.

If you’re feeling like your energy stores are depleted or you want to ensure they don’t get that way, it’s time for a new plan to get refueled so you can finish 2024 strong and be ready for what’s ahead in 2025.  If I can support you, please reach out.
