Are you playing it safe?
When things happen more than one time, you start wondering what message the universe is sending you.
I did a lot of driving this week so got to catch up on several podcasts that I regularly listen to, and one had an author/podcaster who published a book last fall titled, Never Play It Safe. The episode is linked below.
I also saw a memory pop up of a blog post I published this week last year, titled One Bold Move, reminding me of an agreement I had made with myself to try to make one bold move each day. Yes, unfortunately, I have not kept that commitment to myself, so maybe it’s time to try again.
And, today, I pulled a card that said this:
Playing it safe is the easy route most of the time.
We just keep doing what we’re doing.
We don’t look for opportunities outside of our current box.
Though, every once in a while, we wonder, what if…
And, then, we put up all the reasons why not.
Not playing it safe means we’re taking a risk.
We’re not going to be sure it will work out. We might fail.
But we might end up with exactly what we want.
Sometimes, playing it safe is an effective leadership endurance strategy. We have our plan, and we just need to focus on executing on it.
But, sometimes, we’re playing it safe because we don’t believe that we’re ready for the bigger role or that we shouldn’t want the more challenging opportunity. We won’t get what we want if we’re not willing to take a risk and leap from the known to the unknown.
We know that once we set the intention to take that next step, to stop playing it safe, it’s time to create the plan to accomplish it. And…then we do the work.
The first step is being willing to stop playing it safe. The rest will follow.
What part of your life are you playing it safe right now out of fear of what if?
Make today the day you set a new intention toward no longer playing it safe in one area.
