The Power of Small Groups
I love the Memories feature on Facebook. I see moments that I treasured as my kids were growing up, favorite race memories, and sad moments. This week, I saw a memory from many years ago where I captured the sadness of my kids when my parents’ dog died…" but he was part of our family." My daughter was surprised that I shared those kinds of moments on Facebook.
Fast-forward to today as I write this. One of my memories from last year was a trip to Austin, TX, for my first business retreat. I remember a coffee outing with two of my old Accenture HR colleagues. Catching up with them was so fun, but it also translated several months later into creating a small group of ex-Accenture HR leaders who have gone out on their own and want to stay connected so we can support each other. We have become a new small group.
The business retreat I participated in was part of a year-long Mastermind (small group program) I participated in last year and continued into this year. It was a big financial and time commitment for me to make in late 2022, but I knew that if I wanted my business to continue to grow, I needed to do something different…not just a course or a coach, but an integrated long-term program.
The experience of meeting virtually with this group of women weekly for 90 minutes and then spending two days with them in person was a huge jump-start for my growth. I am a convert to the value of being part of a small group program because of the power that comes when you combine group learning with individual coaching and an amazing group of peers.
Why am I sharing this today?
You may have seen me share my upcoming FIRE Circle program for women CEOs of small organizations. The value that I've gotten out of the programs I've been a part of is what I've created in this program offering. The intention of this program is to create confidence for these CEOs/senior leaders that they have optimized the impact of their competitive advantage - the people on their team and how they are led.
The program highlights include:
Small group (no more than 6 people)
Semi-monthly virtual group learning & coaching opportunities
Semi-monthly virtual group co-working/office hours opportunities
Monthly virtual 1:1 coaching
There is such energy when you come together with people there to help and support you, whether it's a group like my FIRE Circle, a mentoring circle at your employer, or a small group program offered in your church, community group, or gym.
We can go it alone, but often it's easier and more beneficial to do it with others.
Are you a part of a group that is helping you achieve your goals? If not, is today the day you consider becoming part of something?
