Letting Go

Letting go on roller coaster

When I mentioned to my sister the name of this blog post, she asked if I were planning to sing for you.  Needless to say, she was thankful when I said there was no audio tied to this post.  I love to sing, but it is not my gift (it's hers).

Often our inclination is to hold on tight to the ideas we believe in, the people we care about, and the perceptions of ourselves that we created or that were influenced by how others tell us we show up.

As the years pass, I've realized we benefit more when we let go or at least hold things more loosely.  One of my very first blog posts was about holding on tight and the challenges that brings.

But today is all about letting go because it allows us and the people around us to grow.  When we let go or loosen the reins, it's initially scary because we feel like we're losing control, but then it's exhilarating because there's a feeling of freedom and joy.

So what is worth letting go of?  Here are some of the items on my list, and I'd love to hear any you'd like to share.

It's powerful to let go of:

✏️The expectation that I or the people around me will be perfect.

✏️The belief that my way of thinking is the best way.

✏️The belief that how my kids choose to live their life is a reflection on me - positive or negative.

✏️Self-worth being tied to external factors - money, titles, body shape, etc.

✏️A belief that by taking a break or asking for help, you let other people down.

✏️A belief that if you're successful, that work should always feel hard.

And…I'm sure I could go on, but you get the point.

What is it time to let go in your world or what have you let go of already that has made you feel more free?
