Celebrate January!
Today is the last day of January. Congratulations - you have successfully navigated the first month of the year and the decade! Maybe this first month saw you staying on track with your goals for the month or the year. Maybe this month found you abandoning your goals because they seemed too big. Maybe you realized you really want to focus on something different than you thought. Or maybe life threw you a curve ball.
No matter what happened in January, now is the time to keep pushing forward or start again. If we’re not on track, the year and the decade are not lost. We get to start over every day and set a new direction if we need to. We need to move away from an all or nothing mindset and stay focused on doing the next right thing.
If you had some wins in January, did you take a moment to celebrate? Many of us tend to hit a milestone, say a quick "Yeah!" and move on to what we need to do next. I recommend that we all rethink this and take a longer pause to celebrate what we have accomplished. Life is a journey so we need to make sure we're fully experiencing all of the accomplishments we have and not just focusing on what we're learning from our mistakes.
So...take a moment and create a table that has 2 headers:
This month I’m proud that…
This month I learned…
Spend a few minutes documenting your “wins” and your learnings. Any ah-has?
Here are a few from my list
This month I’m proud that…
I focused on eating whole foods the majority of the time
I signed some clients
I worked out most days of the month
I was able to spend time with my parents twice and my sister’s family once
I was able to give my daughter the opportunity to spend a few days in South Carolina working with horses and riding every day
I stayed on track with my journal prompts around Joy and Impact
This month I learned…
I need a better mechanism to motivate me to do my strengthening exercises
I need to refocus on my system of getting my bi-weekly blogs prepared in advance
I need to recommit to drinking more water
There are more I can add, but you get the idea. When you look at the list for yourself, I hope that you find that you can celebrate a great month. Maybe everything didn’t go as you would like or as planned but I bet some good or great things happened.
Commit to making sure that you are celebrating your wins (no matter how small) and taking the learnings from the things that didn’t work out.
On to February!
