The Power of a Suggestion
At some point in 2020, a colleague suggested that I should turn some of my LinkedIn posts into a book. Initially, I wasn't sure if I saw myself as an author, even though I knew I had written a lot of content, and there's always the concern that no one will buy it.
The joys of self-doubt.
The idea kept popping back into my head, so I decided eventually to give it a try. I decided I didn't need to start from scratch and come up with a new idea. I started curating all that I had written and eventually came up with a few themes that I could use to anchor a book idea. Over the past year, I've dabbled at putting it together into something that I thought could benefit all of you. I also got good counsel to stop thinking that I had to create a traditional long-form, research-based book. I could do something that felt more right for me.
What resulted is two (maybe there will be more for the future) practical guides around how we live our lives and how we think about our jobs. I've named the series "Perfect is Over-rated."
Coming soon, I will launch two new short books into the world:
📙A Perfect Life is Not the Goal: A Practical Guide to Loving the Life You are Living
📙There is No Such Thing as a Perfect Job: A Practical Guide to Loving Your Work Life.
I've also been told that one of my gifts is matching my writing themes with a curated photo. In addition to my posts here, I've been sharing a short reflective post along with those photos on Instagram.
Once again, the power of suggestion.
I used several of those posts to create a short photo book that I gave to a few people as gifts. I got positive reviews on the book so I've had more printed and will now be making those available to anyone interested in picking one up. It's a great resource to use for a morning reflection and could make a great gift for a friend (Valentine's Day is coming). "Reflections for Unlocking Your Best Life" is available today for purchase on my website.
Are the people around you suggesting ideas to you that you've discarded, thinking that you weren't ready for them?
What's stopping you from considering them?
Sometimes we need external voices to boost our confidence or give power to an idea that's starting to ruminate in our brain.
What do you want to try even though there's a risk of failure?
