When one door closes…
As the saying goes, when one door goes, another opens, and that has been my experience, though we don't always see it that way initially.
I was slated to work at a government consulting company when I first graduated from college. When I arrived on day 1, they told me the contract fell through, and they didn't have a job for me. I still wonder if they forgot about me until I showed up since it seems odd that they didn’t just tell me not to come. Door closed.
That closed door ultimately led me to a bank's management training program, where I realized I enjoyed the people side of the business and led me to get my Master’s degree in HR Management. New door opened.
This week, I heard that I wasn’t selected for an opportunity for which I had submitted a proposal. Door closed.
But, they had an interest in my support in another area. New door opened.
One of the things I've been learning is that, though we may be initially disappointed when an opportunity falls through, we have the choice of how we look at it. I'm choosing to look at situations where an opportunity doesn't go my way as a signal that I'm meant to spend my time doing something else and that this situation is allowing my time to be freed up to say yes when that opportunity comes.
How are you approaching the doors that seem to close for you?
Is there an opportunity to embrace the belief that something else good will happen instead?
If you want to talk about your closed doors and how to reset your mindset, let's talk.
