I'm Ready for a Holiday Weekend

If you're like me at all, you get excited for a holiday weekend because it means at least one extra day off of work.  Even though I have a flexible schedule, I love this additional feeling that I can take a break.

This particular holiday weekend (for those in the US celebrating) is the unofficial start to summer, which often brings the feeling of fun and ease.  However, it also can feel stressful, particularly for parents working through how they address the summer break from school and for business owners who realize they're quickly approaching Q3 and aren't confident they're on track to meet their 2024 business plans.

Last week, I was driving from my home in Delaware to the Washington, DC area, and one of the routes takes me over the Annapolis Bay Bridge, a bridge I love to be a passenger going over and one that I don't love driving.  The weather was less than optimal for me to "enjoy" the drive.

It was spitting rain

It was foggy

You could barely see the bridge span.

When I do this drive, I always have to put on music to help me feel confident driving over it.  I picked one of my playlists, and the song that came on immediately was titled "Breathe."  Wow…couldn't have picked better.

We know that when stressed, we often hold our breaths instead of breathing through what scares us.

We also tend to hold on with tight control, and when things go wrong, we tend to react rather than respond. During this drive, I was listening to Brené Brown's podcast episode with Amy Webb (definitely worth a listen—link below), and Amy highlighted that when we start to slide, our reaction is to slam on the brakes, but instead, the right approach is "steering into the slide."

As you head into summer and toward the second half of 2024, where are you starting to react by slamming on the brakes?

What opportunity do you have to "steer into the slide?"

I want to help you respond instead of react.

Let's spend 90 minutes together to map out what's working well and what's not working optimally and create a plan to enjoy your summer in an anxiety-free mode.  This session can focus on you as a leader of yourself or on how you're leading your teams or organization.  If you want to book this now, you can use this link to schedule and pay.

If you need more than a 90-minute strategy session and want to spend a half-day together examining how you're managing and leading your organization, where the opportunities are, and how you can make it operate more effectively, respond to this email, and we can arrange a session.

Let's focus on a summer free from the fog and the anxiety.

Let's focus on breathing and steering into the slide.

We've got this.
