How Clear Are You?
How important is clarity to you in your life? For me, it’s really important because I like to be able to see the answers. I’m ok not being able to see the whole picture, but I definitely prefer the other. It’s like the ocean. I’m ok swimming in the ocean, not being able to see the bottom, but I love to be in the Caribbean where the water is clear, and I can see what’s swimming there and see the shells on the bottom. Though, that kind of clarity also gives you early terror warnings that some fish or sea animal may be coming your way. Do you prefer the element of surprise or seeing it coming? Not sure which one would be worse.
How does clarity fit into our lives?
Clarity of our purpose in life
Clarity of our goals, what we’re working towards, why, and how we’ll get there
Clarity of our priorities
Clarity of the meaning of our words and actions
Clarity of the value of the relationships we have or are lacking
Clarity on the next step to take
Clarity on how a situation will play out
Clarity on how to spend the next vacation
And the list goes on to include all the little things as well as the big things.
Are you feeling clarity in all of these areas? I doubt any of us could say yes to all of the areas because there is unknown in the world and because our perspectives change with new information. So, what do we do about not having clarity?
I think it starts with writing down what we do know.
Then writing down what we wish we knew.
And then creating a plan to figure out what we want to know.
And then following through.
Sometimes clarity requires an extensive internal process…what’s our purpose in life, but sometimes it’s more about shutting out the noise to hear what we really are feeling and who we’re trying to be and what we’re trying to do. In the US, we’re going into a holiday weekend so it’s a good time to sit down and ponder some of these hard questions. If you’re up for the challenge because you know that you’re in a situation that’s murky and not clear, here are some reflection questions:
What do you wish you were more clear about today?
What would or could change if you did have that clarity?
How much is that clarity worth to you?
What will prevent you from finding the clarity?
Clarity often comes when we quiet our mind, change the scenery we’re surrounded by, write down what’s in our heads, or some combination of all of these.
What’s it worth to find some clarity today? Are you ready to make the investment to find it?
