Finding the Time
Over the years, I have found myself saying..."I'm so busy, I don't know when I'll get x done"... This feeling of being overwhelmed seems to permeate so many discussions we have with each other as we try to juggle family responsibilities, work, and our personal hobbies and interests. For me, I've learned that I need to be clear on what my top priorities are for the day, week, or month ahead so that I can keep those on the forefront of my focus. At the end of the day, we all need to decide for ourselves - what are our true priorities - not those of our boss, our partner, our church, our kids, our friends, etc.
What matters most to you today? What do you wish you were spending more or less time on? What one thing could you do today to move in that direction?
I've read a lot and have heard many people talk about their strategies, but some of the best advice that has helped me in my journey around time management are from the following sources:
- Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy - do the hard thing first...get it done. Check it out here at Bookshop.org, a site that ships books from independent bookstores across the country, or here from Amazon.
- Gayle Hilgendorff - She told me years ago to gauge your priorities by your calendar. Does your calendar reflect your 3 biggest "rocks" or priorities? If not, you need to start there because we focus on what's in our calendar. Check Gayle out here.
