35 Days Left

An hourglass framed by three wooden pillars shows most of its sand already dropping into the bottom half

It’s hard to believe that we’re already counting down the days until we leap into 2022. Having a countdown like this can be valuable but also depressing if you let it. So let’s dive in with a set of questions to guide your reflection.

Setting up for the year (if you didn’t do this, no judgment here)

  • Did you have a goal or set of goals for 2021?

  • Did you pick a word of the year or define what was most important for the year?

  • Did you identify a set of habits that you wanted to embrace or discard for the year?

Progress and/or Adjusting through the year

  • Priorities and goals are likely to shift during the year. What did you add, delete, modify?

  • What did you realize throughout the year that was more or less important than you thought it would be?

  • What changes did you make throughout the year to your plans?

Reflecting on 35 days left

  • What are you most proud of that you accomplished? Celebrate!

  • How did your “word of the year” resonate/guide you through the year? Do you need to reemphasize it for this last month?

  • What is important that is still left to be done in 2021? Remember, this is not your to-do list, but the most important things for you to say were part of your 2021.

  • During this holiday season, how do you want to feel? How do you want to show up? How do you want others to feel when they’re with you? What will it take to make those behaviors real?

There is no magic to what we accomplish within a calendar year. Life is fluid. We can change what’s important to us when it’s time to do it. If we don’t accomplish a goal, we can continue it into the new year or decide that it really wasn’t a priority. The end of the year is not the end of anything besides 2021. The essential things in life continue on.

Do a true assessment of what the year has brought and what you want to see for the rest of it, but there shouldn’t be a place for judging yourself on what got done or not done. That judgment won’t serve you. What will serve you is an intentional plan on how you want to lead yourself through the rest of 2021 and into 2022.
